On Letting Go

One of the hardest things in life… letting go. Let’s talk about it.

“Here we go.” I know, I know… but I am not talking about letting go of a lost pet or loved one or even that favorite pair of jeans that still hiding in the back of your closet. You know those jeans will never see the light of day again yet they continue to take up space, and thats okay, but I am talking about the mainstream, our 9-5 jobs and even trends. The toxins and negative energy we knowingly and maybe even willingly put into our bodies each and everyday.

Let that shit go!

If you’re looking to create and grow a more holistic lifestyle, you’re in the right place. This blog serves as a safe space to learn and let thoughts flow but also serves as an essential guide, I talk about the basics and starting small to approach wellness. Not to mention it helps hold yourself accountable when you put actions into words as well. So, what even is holistic living? Well, it generally refers to a way of life that incorporates your mind, body and soul. A holistic lifestyle will vary per person but the key is to find what works for you. We will talk about creating a wellness routine that fits you!

When you focus on all aspects of your health, you will make decisions that benefit you as a whole. One of the best ways to start creating a holistic lifesytle is by making a daily routine. When you have a set routine to follow, it makes it easier to focus on all aspects of your heath. Your daily routine can include simple tasks like your skin care, eating breakfast each morning or even letting the dog out. Your daily routine could also include more challenging tasks like eating healthy, getting enough rest or getting exercise everyday. Remember, your brain is essentially running on a reward system, by setting a standard that you’re rewarded by creating a daily routine, you are enticed to do it again and again. Don’t worry! You don’t need to make any drastic changes all at once, but starting small to grow a routine makes it easier to stick with, see the results and grow trust. You’re growing trust within yourself, that you will choose yourself and show up for yourself. The most important thing to holistic living, or living in general really, is consistency. It’s not enough to do these things every once in a while. The consistency of care sets the tone for everything to follow.

So what are you waiting for? It is easier than you think and I have some questions that helped me get started on my journey…

Why do you want to change and be healthy now? Ex: I want to feel healthier and have more energy. - Remembering that life is a journey, will serve as motivation in times that you feel like giving up. If you remember that purpose you’ll be able to push through.

Are you living in the present? - If you’re not living in the present you cannot focus on your health and wellbeing. Are you enjoying life and taking time off? Traveling? Now, I am not telling you to stop preparing for the future, paying your bills or even to stop looking back from the past to learn lessons. I am saying that living in the present, being grateful and understand the Universe is always working in your highest favor will help you live a healthier life.

Are you eating whole and healthy foods? - The gut affects the brain. When you eat nutritious foods, it becomes easier to stay on track and make positive changes. For example, try eating a whole grain bread instead of white or packing your lunch each day instead of eating fast foods. Eating healthy can be challenging but it will be worth it.

Are you taking good care of your mental health too? - Living a holistic lifestyle is easier when you have a healthy mind. Set some time apart in your day for meditation, yoga, reading, crafting or anything that you enjoy. Even if its just 10 minutes. These activities will improve your mental stability and well-being.

Are you getting enough sleep? - How can you expect the body to function properly if you’re not giving it proper rest? Your body needs that time to repair itself. Getting enough sleep is essential to a healthy lifestyle and makes it easier to focus on your health.

Do you have a morning routine? - Your body only has a set amount of Cortisol each day, so if you’re starting you morning in a full blown, grumpy panic, you unknowing send your body into a fight or flight response. You will have used up your entire supply of Cortisol and have nothing to fuel the rest of the day. Starting your morning out on the right foot is essential. This may look like taking time to get ready, drinking tea or coffee or even as simple as putting your favorite essential oil on to diffuse throughout the day.

Do you have positive relationships? - Are you around people that lift you up and add value to your life? A great way to practice the life you want is to find a community or family of people that share the same ideas, values or hobbies. When you surround yourself with positive, supportive and like-minded people, they help you grow into your highest self.

Are you grateful for where you’re starting and where you’re headed? - Gratitude helps improve your mood and can even boost your immune system. Be gentle with yourself and love yourself. Gratitude may look like journaling for some, acts of services or say shopping for others. Whatever it is, take a few minutes to appreciate the good things that have happened to you.

When you have too many things going on in your life, it becomes difficult to prioritize and focus on whats important. Focus on what is most important to you and go from there. Get rid of anything that no longer serves you and integrate habits that will improve your overall life. If you take one thing to start, use the 5 minute mantra in your life…. if it takes 5 minutes or less just do it. Instead of rinsing the dish to lay in the sink, put it directly into the dishwasher. Something so simple to add to a daily routine but will prove the biggest impact. No more coming home to a sink full of dishes that you now have a devastating hour ahead of rinsing and placing each dish into the dishwasher but instead just pushing a start button because the task is simply already done. This allows you to refocus valuable time back to yourself.

So there you have it, what matters most is that you, keep YOU an ongoing priority in YOUR life.
